Why Torque-Free Is No Longer Enough!
How Axis1 continues to lead with more than just zero-torque
When Axis1 launched the first zero-torque/perfectly balanced putter, we changed the way golfers think about stability and balance throughout their stroke. By eliminating torque - the twisting that causes the putter face to open or close during the stroke - we gave golfers a new level of control and consistency.
But here’s the thing… that alone is no longer enough. In today’s market, several brands claim to offer “torque-free” putters and while some do a good job of it, few (if any) actually go beyond that. Many new brands are creating putters that “resist twisting” but that is where they stop, they’ve achieved just enough to claim to be torque-free but they all come up short when it comes offering a great putter. This is where Axis1 stands apart, we developed zero-torque putters over a decade ago, we’re already pushing the category forward with things like multi-material construction, innovative weighting systems, hollow cavity designs and much more.
Being torque-free is no longer enough, everyone can do it or at least claim it now. So if you’re in the market for a torque-free putter it’s important to understand the actual differences between each putter. We may be biased, but there is no other company putting as much emphasis on new technology as Axis1.
More than just zero-torque
Axis1 putters aren’t just designed to resist twisting. We go further than that, building technology that impacts feel, forgiveness and performance.
1. Patented Center of Gravity Placement
This aspect of a putters design may be the most crucial to creating a forgiving and consistent putter yet it seems to be the most overlooked. At Axis1 we have the most forward center of gravity (CG) positioning that is perfectly aligned with the shaft’s axis. Other torque-free putters are placing the CG further back from the striking face so that they can equally weight the club head around that CG point. This is why so many torque-free putters are center shafted, the shaft is going directly into the CG placement of the putter. CG placement that is further back can actually increase twisting at impact and reduces the consistency of off-center strikes.
So, what does this all mean for your game?
-
Straighter, more consistent rolls
-
Better energy transfer on off-center strikes
-
Tighter dispersion and improved distance control.
2. Off-Center Hits that stay on Target
Mishits happen, but with our forward and centered CG placement, toe and heel strikes perform more like center strikes. That’s more consistency where it matters most. You can watch this independently made video review showing toe & heel strikes with our new putter and the consistency in distance and dispersion.
3. Off-Center Hits that stay on Target
At Axis1, all of our putters have CG vertically aligned with the shaft and grip axis, promoting a natural stroke.
Because of our balance and alignment, you don’t have to press or manipulate the grip to keep the face square. Axis1 putters promote a free, relaxed and natural stroke allowing you to putt with more feel and confidence.
A concern with zero-torque putters with a rearward CG placement is the requirement of a forward shaft lean needed to balance the putter. This forward press design actually makes you change how you set up and swing the club and does not promote a natural stroke. Because of the press, these putters often have a higher loft on the face which can lead to more inconsistent distance control on longer putts. Furthermore, the rearward CG is less forgiving on off center hits that putters with the CG closer to the face.
4. Premium Materials Designed For Performance
From CNC-milled stainless steel to multi-material constructions with tungsten weighting, our putters are built with the highest quality materials to elevate both feel and performance.
More Than A Trend - A Performance Standard.
While the industry races to add “torque-free” claims to their product lines, Axis1 continues to lead by going beyond torque. We build putters that combine stability, CG alignment, forgiveness & feel to give you every advantage on the green.
Ready to experience the difference? We’re so confident you’ll love our putters we have a Performance Assurance Program that gives you 30 days from the time of purchase to return the putter no questions asked. We know you won’t need to use it, but it’s a nice option to have when making a change to your bag!
